Romney Admits That Unions Protect Workers

Mitt Romney is trying desperately to do some damage control.  In large part do to self-inflected wounds like writing an op-ed entitled "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt," Romney is now trailing 15 points behind Rick Santorum in his "home state" of Michigan.  And so in his infinite wisdom, he's decided to pen another op-ed, this one entitled, "U.S. Autos Bailout Was Crony Capitalism on a Grand Scale."  Now plenty of people are probably going to discuss the wisdom of doubling down on the "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt" sentiment.  Some people might even get into how exactly Bain Capitol would have handled the auto industry (maybe even me).  But that's not what I want to focus on right now.  What I want to focus on is this quote buried deep in his new op-ed:

The pensions of union workers and retirees at Delphi, GM's parts supplier, were left untouched, while some 21,000 non-union salaried employees saw their pensions slashed and lost their life and health insurance. And so on and so forth across the industry.
While a lot of workers and investors got the short end of the stick, Obama's union allies — and his major campaign contributors — reaped reward upon reward, all on the taxpayer's dime.
Of course Romney couched it as a cynical and unethical kickback to Obama's supporters, but really look at what he said there.  Employees that banded together in a Union so that they could have a seat at the negotiating table were able to protect their pensions and benefits, while those who weren't unionized lost them.  And that's the point.  Individual hard working Americans get screwed each and every day.  The only way they can hope to protect themselves, their livelihoods, and their families is to stand together in a Union and through sheer weight of numbers force their way into a seat at the negotiating table.

And Mitt Romney just admitted that's true, that the only way for the average person to protect the health insurance and retirement plan they were promised is to join a Union.  So the question you've got to ask yourself is, knowing that why exactly does Mitt Romney oppose Unions and what does that say about your retirement and your healthcare under a Romney Administration?
