Voting Rights Violators: Ascribing Motive, Federal Disenfranchisement, and 70% of the Electoral College

In 30 weeks we go to the polls again to reelect President Obama. Republicans know that they aren't going to gain the support of the American people, so instead they're going to strip them of the right to vote:
  • Rush Limbaugh went on the air yesterday to claim that Democrats are opposed to Voter ID Laws "so they can win elections, because they can't win them straight up." Now let's put aside the fact that polling puts Obama up over Romney by somewhere between 5-11 points, what Limbaugh is doing is ascribing motive to Democrats' opposition to the law.  Now the fact that no one has been able to provide any evidence of widespread voter fraud kind of weakens his theory.  But what motive can we ascribe to Limbaugh and Republicans from the well documented fact that Voter ID Laws would disproportionately disenfranchise minorities, the poor, and young people: all demographics Republicans lose badly?
